How do we assess "Shades"?

Sometimes shades are not supplied together with the luminaire.

Shades are not an electrical product. From a safety point of view the General Product Safety Directive (GSPD) applies rather than the Low Voltage Directive (LVD). The products don’t need to be "CE" marked.

However, care needs to be taken to ensure they are safe and that the correct marking information is provided on the product.

We assess shades against the applicable clauses of BS EN 60598 to ensure their durability and if necessary that they are not flammable.

A LA Lab test report can help you to win recognition with retailers by demonstrating durability and safety for your product. A third party test report can form part of your due diligence defence for your technical file and trading standards.
